We decided to book an Executive Suite at the Lord Elgin. Unfortunately, it was a rather unpleasant stay. Four examples of poor service were: 1. They booked us into the Executive Suite directly above the ballroom (where a wedding reception was being held) even when other Executive Suites further away from the noise were available (we weren’t told either of these facts when we checked in). 2. During the first night, each time we phoned the front desk to complain about the noise, we were told the reception was ending soon and they would ask to have volume and bass turned down. A server at breakfast confided to us that there had been many complaints. 3. Inquiring at the front desk the next evening about a late check-out the next day, we mentioned the noise the night before. We were then told there was to be another event in the ballroom that night. At this point in the evening, there were no executive suites left for us to move to at the Lord Elgin (so we moved to another hotel). 4. As we were leaving the hotel, we asked to speak to the manager. We were told that the Guest Services Supervisor wasn’t on duty, but they would leave a note for her to call us on Monday. Needless to say, it’s Tuesday evening, and no phone call (I can’t say I’m surprised). Usually I can be understanding when one, or perhaps two things don’t go as right. But 4 examples of poor customer service are indicative of staff that have not had the benefit of a good training program. In my 25 years of business travel, this stay ranks as the worst I have ever experienced. Stay here at your own risk.

We were only at The Lord Elgin for one night. It was a great place to stay because of the convenience to some of the major sites in the city. The hotel was very clean and our room while it didn't have a great view was comfortable. Getting the car was quick and easy and the staff was very helpful. I would definitely recommend the hotel and I would stay there again.

My husband and I stayed at the Lord Elgin June 12-16 2009. We loved our stay there! The hotel is beautiful, from the lobby to the guest rooms. Our room (on the 3rd floor) was very clean, roomy and nicely decorated. It featured a very comfortable king sized bed, a couple upholstered chairs, side table, desk, TV, armoire, nightstands, closet, mini fridge and coffee maker. The shower had a great massaging showerhead and the water didn?t need to warm up. Instant hot water the minute we turned it on! The A/C unit worked great, but the window also opens a little if you want some fresh air (which we liked a lot). The room was pretty sound proof. We had stayed at an older hotel once before and the walls seemed kind of thin. We didn?t have that problem at the Lord Elgin. The staff was wonderful! Everyone was very friendly. The valets/concierges were helpful when we asked about what there was to do in the area and they got our car very quickly when we needed it. In the hotel there is a Starbucks, a restaurant, gift shop, a fitness center and an indoor pool (a small lap pool and a hot tub). They have Wi-Fi available or if you don?t have a laptop (like me), there is the ?Business Center? in the lobby. It has 2 computers with internet and printers available to all guests. There is no charge for using the hotel internet. The hotel is in the heart of downtown Ottawa. It is close to lots of great attractions/shopping like the Parliament Building, The Rideau Centre, The National Gallery of Canada and the Byward Market. Not only did we enjoy our stay at the Lord Elgin, but we loved Ottawa as well. Very charming city! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
