Overall our stay at the Gran Melia Puerto Rico was nice. We did have to changes rooms because of the overwhelming mildew smell. Our new room was much better. Pool was great, beach was rocky, restaurants were over priced, breakfast brunch was way overpriced and not good, poolside drinks were overpriced, in addition to bartenders at night that seemed too busy to serve drinks - we gave up after 15 minutes. Staff were friendly and accomodating except for one person at the reception desk. She had a attitude and was obnoxious. You definitely need a rental car if you stay there. Coco Market at the corner of the main street was great for breakfast and lunch - local food and reasonable. Brass Cactus and Sandy's in Luquillo were good also.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel! Overall cleanliness was great, service was efficient and friendly, food was delicious in all restaurants. The resort is very remote from local markets, shopping, etc. so unless you're brave enough to rent a car you're left with just the services the hotel provides which are expensive!

Went for first time for 2 nights, for anniversary and it was great as expected. Great service, great rooms, beautiful ocean view, huge pool for everyone, nice pool bar with good menu. Excellent spa service, and dinner is perfect either is asian, italian or puerto rican food. Got a great deal and very anxious on doing it again.

Daughter and I picked the Gran Melia for our Mother/Daughter get away and we were very pleased. Plan to make it our yearly stay now. Hotel staff went out of their way to accomodate us. We found the food pricey but very good, tried every dessert they made. Would recommend the Royal Service as you get Breakfast and daily snacks for free. The Breakfast Buffet is 23.00 per person, you can also order from a menu but is just as expensive. There is a Bakery once you turn off the main road and we purchased pastries and drinks to keep in our room. The grounds were beautiful and we enjoyed walking around the Resort in the evening as it was well lite. Staff will pick you up in a Resort cart if you call the front desk. Can't wait for November 2009 to get here.

We arrived at Gran Melia at 8pm I kid you not, the hotel is a 10-15 minute drive from the entrance with speed bumps every 50 yards Gran Melia has beautifully executed landscaping sort of like disney world It doesn't feel like you're in Puerto Rico. The only thing you drive past on the way in is an impeccably manicured driveway, a Donald Trump golf course, and some under construction soon to be equally out of touch condo's. So we checked in, hungry after travel, and the only dinning options were the resort restaurants or the trek out to town. We opted for the Caribbean style restaurant after 25 minutes of waiting for the waiter to bring a beer and a pina colada (he never came back) we went back to the room disgusted and tired and ordered room service (overcooked $12 burgers that were not even on par with what we would have eaten had we decided to take the 20 minute drive to Wendys) The next day I was informed that my reservation was unrefundable I won't get into the hour long argument but we were only charged for the one night (Thank you online travel website) If you do decide to stay, here are some tips: rent a car, otherwise you are a prisoner (BTW you will have to pay the ridiculous parking fees) Bring snacks, we have a 2 year old and couldn't buy him milk and a snack without ordering room service Meet friends/family elsewhere (Visitors can't come past the lobby) Mind the hidden fees We had a wonderful vacation in Puerto Rico and it started the minute we left the Gran Melia If you came to experience the rich culture that PR has to offer I highly recommend looking elsewhere (Try El Yunque Mar Hotel)
