This was my first time to Cancun and my gf's second, and it was truly wonderful! We were there from Nov 1-Nov 4 . From the time we arrived till the time we left, we were spoiled by friendly, attentive staff, GREAT food and a small but gorgeous beach that we could see from our room window. An added benefit was that we could go to the Riu Cancun next door - which we did one day and had some of the best ribs we've ever had! (yes, food is important!). Riu Cancun also has a nicer, bigger beach which made for a nice change - they also seemed to have more of a family orientation. Riu Palace seemed more adult-oriented, which is what we were kind of looking for, but then again it was low peak season. We spent the majority of our time either on the beach or in one of the three jacuzzis, being brought drinks two at a time with a smile. Having done the all-inclusive experience, I think I'll be hard pressed to vacation normally!

I was reluctant of booking this hotel based on the very mixed reviews I had read here, but I was more than glad to find out upon arrival that I had made the right choice. LOCATION: Las Americas is located in the middle of the nightlife and shopping area of the zona hotelera in Cancun. The local bus runs along the strip and can be taken right outside the door and on your way back will drop you only two blocks down from the hotel. STAFF AND SERVICE: Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. Most employees understand and speak fluently english. They will tend to you even when people do not tip them, which was something that surprised me given the quality of service they provide. CLEANLINESS: I have read about the strange smell one perceives in the lobby, but that is just the mist from being so close to the sea. The rooms were impeccable and you'll get everything you need in yours: ironing board, blow dryer, plenty of towels, a fully stocked bar and a big closet. You will also receive a lock to deposit your valuables in the safe located inside the closet. FOOD: This would be my only complaint about my stay at the Riu. For a hotel chain of this level the restaurants were very poor. Out of three we tried only Krystal was outstanding. Avoid the sushi and rodizzio, go for the buffett or try the rest. next door. POOL AND BEACH: Clean as they come. They actually sweep the sand every morning. Not spacious beach but plenty of room to enjoy. Two pools, one more laid back and one to hang out and drink. Overall a great stay for the price, definitely would go back!

The RPLA is an excellent hotel. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate you. The location of the hotel is close walking distance to shopping and bars or the local bus is a good source of travel. Occupancy seemed to be less than previous years but the service was still good. The 5 reservation resaturants were not all open due to slow they advised. We were still able to have 3 dinners for our 8 night stay and could have had mor if we had chosen. We always make a trip to WAlmart since we found tequilla much cheaper there and we like traveling by bus. We also visited Isla Mujerles. Last year we took the bus to Puerto Juarez and had no problem. However, this year due to slow season they were no longer the bus the whole way to the pier so we had to take a taxi about a mile to the ferry. We just got on the ferry coming back to the hotel zone. Please remember to tip these hard working people. I noticed alot less tipping this year from guest so please remember to tip for the great service you receive. They work for alot less than you can imagine and $ or $$ goes along way.
